To promulgate the message of “Do More Exercise, Drink Less”, the Department of Health kicked off the “Stay Sober, Sport Better” Campaign in July 2017 to remind members of the public the harm of alcoholic drinks.

If you drink alcohol before or after sport, you may be at risk of the following:

  • Low blood glucose because of increased liver’s burden
  • Poorer sport performance and increased risk of injury or even death (such as drowning)
  • Dehydration due to increased urine output
  • Slower recovery of muscles

The Department of Health endeavors to step up of risk communication activities to strengthen public literacy to guard against harmful consequences of drinking before, during and after sport and to spread the important message of “ Stay Sober, Sport Better”, leading an active, alcohol-free lifestyle.
