Main cause of injuries

According to the Unintentional Injury Survey 2018, the most common main cause of injuries was falls (39.4%). It was followed by sprain (26.2%), hit / struck (13.3%), sports (7.4%) and cutting / piercing (3.6%). However, unlike the situation in other countries, there was no reported case of poisoning or electric shock in this survey.

Among all injuries, 39.4% were due to falls; 26.2% were due to sprain; 13.3% were due to hit or struck; 7.4% were due to sports; 3.6% were due to cutting or piercing; 2.8% were due to traffic; 2.5% were due to burns; 2.0% were due to crush; 1.9% were due to other reasons; 0.8% were due to animal bite, and 0.2% were due to non-fatal drowning.
